Battle of Conception (2010)

The work presents reconstructed Venus busts with diverse racial and ethnic features that are staged in a chess game format against another group with obliterated facial features. The playful but subversive hybridization of multi-racial features of these sculptures challenges popular notions of beauty standard. The celebrated beauty icon of Venus here becomes a signifier for social perception, demystifying the beauty myth as a social conception and renders racial hierarchy as volatile as a perception of beauty.
